Applied EarthWorks is currently seeking to hire a *Senior Architectural
Historian* to support our southern California region.

Founded in 1995, Applied EarthWorks is an employee-owned consulting firm
specializing in history, archaeology, architectural history, and
paleontology. From our Albany, Oregon, and five California offices, located
in Hemet, Pasadena, Lompoc, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno, the firm performs
work throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.
Applied EarthWorks offers a full range of core services, including
prehistoric archaeology, historical archaeology, built environment, lithic
and faunal analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), paleontology,
geoarchaeology, and 3D modeling.

*Job Description: *
The available position is for a senior-level professional architectural
historian with project management responsibilities and oversight for junior
and mid-level historic preservation specialists. The successful applicant
must have experience conducting and directing architectural and historical
multiple structure surveys and recording and evaluating historic built
environment resources according to National Register criteria. The position
requires a strong working knowledge of regulatory compliance, familiarity
with archival sources, and strong written and oral communication skills.
The successful candidate must also demonstrate a positive work ethic,
reliability, ability to manage multiple projects, and commitment to serving
as an integral team member.

*Key Responsibilities:*

– Evaluate historical buildings, structures, and landscapes to National
and California standards;
– Prepare and oversee professional technical reports (including
HABS/HAER/ HALS documentation) to meet National or State-level
documentation standards;
– Develop and implement mitigation for built environment resources for
compliance with CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106;
– Lead business development efforts, identify and track project
opportunities, and serve as senior technical lead on proposals;
– Manage projects and staffing needs to meet project schedules; and
– Mentor and supervise junior staff.

*Education/Experience: *
M.A. degree in history, architectural history, historic preservation, or
closely related discipline required. The successful candidate must meet the
Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for
Architectural Historian. This position requires a minimum of six years of
professional experience as an architectural historian, with demonstration
of progressively increased responsibility in CRM, and at least four years
of experience managing historic built environment projects and preparing
proposals. California experience preferred.
