The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking
qualified
applicants for a position in their archaeology section. This is
a full
time permanent position at the Archaeologist II level, pay grade
70
(Range – $29,184 to $48,115), with full state benefits package.
The position
is currently based in Raleigh, North Carolina, but may require
extensive travel throughout the state.
We are seeking individuals with the skills, training and
experience to
conduct archaeological field studies to identify and evaluate
archaeological sites that may be affected by proposed highway
projects.
Other duties may include administration of consultant contract
projects, preparation
of agreement documents, research designs, and scopes of work.
Work is
with a team of archaeologists and historic preservation
specialists in a larger section of environmental and planning
specialists within the Department of Transportation. The
department offers in-house training opportunities in GIS, CADD,
Microstation, GPS, and other technical skills useful in
performing the essential duties of this position.
Knowledge of federal environmental and historic preservation
legislation and Federal Highway Administration guidelines and
procedures for compliance with historic preservation regulations
is preferred. Applicants should have good writing skills and
demonstrated ability to produce comprehensive written reports in
a timely manner.
