POSITION # EGL/CR/5/15/00
Research position available with the Center for Ecological Management of
Military Lands to be assigned at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, to
provide support for the Cultural Resource Management Program. Position
contingent upon the availability of funds. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: U.S.
citizenship. BS/BA in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related
field with archaeology or anthropology emphasis. DESIRABLE IN ONE OR
MORE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA: Demonstrated knowledge of southeastern
U.S. cultural resource management including archaeological site
analysis, survey and data recovery techniques, report preparation, and
presentation. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of Air Force Environmental Impact Analysis
Process. Demonstrated expertise in the application of the Section 106
Process of the National Historic Preservation Act, Air Force
Instruction, and other cultural resource regulations. Demonstrated
knowledge of the nomination process for the National Register of
Historic Places and of the application of the criteria for
eligibility. Have or be able to obtain a valid drivers' license.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Advise Eglin AFB Historic Preservation Officer.
Assist with development and implementation of cultural resource
management policies. Review Environmental Assessments to ensure
compliance with cultural resource laws. Prepare agreement documents.
Prepare Section 106 review documents for submission to the State
Historic Preservation Officer and Advisory Council on Historic
Preservation. Update and maintain historic building inventory. Review
for completeness and accuracy all contractors' technical archaeological
reports and National Register of Historic Places determinations of
eligibility. Design and implement cultural resource management projects
from conceptualization to report preparation, including archaeological
survey and data recovery. Conduct archaeological site and historic
building assessments to determine impacts to resources. Advise military
and civilian project planners on compliance requirements and mitigation
measures. Update management plans. Represent Eglin AFB Cultural
Resources Management at public outreach events. Oversee artifact
preparation and curation facility to ensure compliance requirements are
met. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications; salary
range is $36,000-$38,000. TO APPLY: Submit (1) letter of application
