Archaeological Consulting Services, Ltd. of Tempe, AZ (ACS) is seeking to
hire a senior project manager. This person must have a Master's degree in
anthropology (specialty: archaeology) and a minimum of seven years
experience in archaeology (Southwest preferred), with three of those years
in a supervisory CRM role. This person must have at least a year of
experience in project management, including working with clients and
regulators, developing testing and data recovery programs, arranging permits
and logistics, monitoring field progress, coordinating with the lab and with
report authors, writing sections of reports, and assessing National Register
of Historic Places eligibility. Experience managing projects with budgets
over $100,000 is desired. Strong supervisory, writing, and verbal
communication skills are essential, as is attention to detail. Experience
with project budgeting and tracking as well as the ability to bring projects
to successful completion on time and within budget are essential. This
position requires the ability to drive ACS vehicles; travel, primarily in
but not restricted to the State of Arizona; and to cover steep or uneven
terrain to access potentially remote locations. As part of the core staff,
this position is eligible for benefits after a three-month introductory
period.
ACS is seeking to hire an editor. This individual should have a Master's
degree in anthropology (specialty: archaeology) and experience in editing
and producing archaeological reports; substantial experience may replace the
degree requirement. Southwest expertise is preferred. The hours will be
variable, approximately 20 to 40 per week. This could become a full-time
position, with benefits after one full year of service, particularly if the
applicant also has expertise and is willing to work at other tasks (e.g.,
mapping, fieldwork, or analysis).
ACS is seeking to hire an assistant project manager. This is a full-time
position and requires a B.A. in anthropology. This person's primary
responsibility will be to provide support for a very busy principal
investigator. Tasks will include, but not be limited to, securing permits
and ensuring permit obligations are met, performing site file checks,
securing motel and vehicle reservations, editing short reports, assisting
with report production, completing computerized site forms from descriptive
reports and field notes, organizing notebooks of contract reports, filing,
updating map files with project findings, and helping track project budgets.
If the workload for this one principal investigator decreases, the assistant
project manager may be asked to assist other project supervisors with
similar tasks. This position would also work for someone with a Master's
degree who wants to gain comprehensive experience in project management
before seeking a higher-level position. This position receives benefits
after one year of full-time service.
ACS is seeking to hire an office assistant. This position is full-time and
requires good communication skills, a pleasant demeanor, and willingness to
perform a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to answering the
telephone and taking messages, running errands, photocopying, binding
reports, organizing recyclables, and assisting the office manager with some
light bookkeeping. This position has benefits after one year of full-time
service.
Please send a cover letter identifying the position for which you are
applying and a copy of your vitae to Margie Green, ACS, 424 W. Broadway
Road, Tempe, AZ 85282 or via e-mail to mgreen@acstempe.com by April 15, 2000
(although the positions may be filled sooner). ACS offers a competitive
salary range and benefits, including participation in a 401(k) program, once
certain criteria have been met. ACS does not discriminate in employment
opportunities or practices on the basis of race, color, religion, sex,
national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by
law.
