GAI Consultants, Inc. has immediate openings for two, full-time
SENIOR ARCHAEOLOGY TECHNICIANS
in our Monroeville Office.

Candidate serves as senior archaeological technician under the
general supervision of field and lab directors/project managers and
will be responsible for both field and laboratory duties, with duties
split approximately 50/50 between field and lab. As an advanced
trainee works on a developmental basis in acquiring the experience
necessary to assume higher level professional archaeologist
responsibilities.

Position requires knowledge and experience of all aspects of Phase I
– III fieldwork. Applicant assists in identifying and recording
historic and prehistoric sites conducting hand excavations,
generating plan and profile maps of excavated units and features,
completing standard level and feature forms, and screening soils to
recover artifacts. This position requires strenuous physical
activities, such as walking, climbing, and lifting, often in rough
terrain in isolated areas, and in a variety of weather conditions.
Applicant is responsible for maintaining a field inventory of
archeological artifacts, field equipment, and supplies. Candidate
provides leadership to field crews by assigning tasks, monitoring the
status of tasks, checking work in progress and amending or rejecting
work not meeting established standards. Senior technician reports
performance, progress, etc. of employees and work to supervisors and
insures that archeological work assignments are carried out in a safe
and timely manner according to established standards and procedures.
Position may require report writing, site form compilation and
research of reference material, such as state archeological site
survey forms, National Register files and historic documents/maps.

Laboratory duties include washing, separating, identifying,
classifying, labeling and cataloging of artifacts, and processing
flotation samples. Trainee should be familiar with database and
spreadsheet applications. Individual must be detail oriented, highly
organized, able to prioritize assignments and willing to work
flexible hours as deadlines and workload requires. Prior knowledge
of the prehistory and history of the Northwestern United States is
helpful, but not necessary. Knowledge of prehistoric and historic
artifact analysis is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:
-BA or BS degree in Archaeology or a related field.
-Must have at least five years of specialized experience in or
directly related to archaeology, which has equipped the applicant
with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the
duties described above.
-Must be willing to travel and have reliable transportation.
