Volunteers needed to help run Shovelbums

Shovelbums is currently at 1750 members and continues to grow
regularly. And with my upcoming wedding in a few weeks, honeymoon, and
then a field project in Pennsylvania I find myself no longer afforded
the luxury I had in grad school where I had constant access to live
internet connections. Hence I have made the fateful (and I hope wise)
decision to ask for volunteer help in running the Shovelbums list and
promoting it in your own neck of the woods.

Ideally what I would want would be a representative from each "classic"
region to become a co-moderator of this list. i.e. we would have
someone from Canada (and possibly later the provinces), UK, Australia,
Russia, US-SW, US-West coast, US NW, US Plains, US-Midwest, US-NE, and
US-SE, etc…

This position requires that you be willing to receive e-mails from the
egroups server and check them out for accuracy before sending them out
(i.e. keeping oddball stuff from coming across). I would also like to
see each of you develop your own localized web resources that would be
linked out from the parent shovelbums site. i.e. with a domain name
like http://canada.shovelbums.org for the canadian resource links.
You will also be joined to a smaller mailing list just for this list
moderators to discuss list issues (i.e. promotion, etc..). You will
also get periodic questions from list members asking basic questions
which you will be expected to answer cordially and in a timely fashion.
I would also ask that you be responsible for spreading the word using
your personal networks in your micro-regions. I am still amazed at how
oftern I meet people who have never heard of this list.

I am not looking to "splinter" Shovelbums, i.e. have distinct regional
jobs lists, there is just not enough volume at this point in time for
that and I feel that would defeat what I/we have built up here.

This job pays a grand total of $0 (which is about $2 Canadian and $.75
Quid) Thispay meets minimum Gov. standards for prevailing wages for
volunteer work ;-). BUT you will get a spiffy yourname@shovelbums.org
forwarding e-mail address which will make you the envy of field techs
the world round.

Please e-mail me with a short letter (not attachments, type in your
e-mail program only) describing why you would like to help with this
list and if you have any web/listserve experience, a few e-mail linked
references that I can drop a note to make sure you are not going to send
crazy things out to the list, and a brief vita of your work history. I
am short on time these days so brevity is the goal. (and would whoever
that was from Indiana or Iowa who originally wrote and volunteered some
time but whose e-mail I have lost please contact me again if still
interested).

Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated. I believe that this is
the right move to further the awareness of this list and make it an
indispensable part of professional archaeological toolbox. In one year
and one month the list has greatly exceeded my expectations and hence
this revaluation and request for volunteer help.
