Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a multidisciplinary cultural resources consulting firm, has multiple temporary, full-time, hourly positions available for archaeological Field Technicians headquartered from SRI’s Tucson office. Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school. Candidates must also have a minimum of 1–2 years of field experience (i.e., survey, testing, and data recovery) and be physically fit and able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (i.e., extreme heat or cold). Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks. Prior experience concerning the history and archaeology of southern Arizona is preferred, as is demonstrated past field experience working with Trimble global positioning system (GPS) receivers. Initial tasking will include an approximately 6-month excavation project on the Barry M. Goldwater Range East near Ajo, Arizona.
Base rate of pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. When working on SCA-eligible jobs, the appropriate wage determination rate plus health and welfare rate will apply. For the above referenced excavation project, the fieldwork will be conducted in Maricopa County, Arizona. The Maricopa County rate is $17.49 plus $4.02 for health and welfare, for a total rate of $21.51 per hour. Food allowance and double occupancy lodging will be provided for fieldwork requiring an overnight stay. Successful applicants will need to pass an Air Force background check as a condition of employment, and successful applicants may need to report to the job site in Ajo, Arizona, at the beginning of each field session.
Job Description:
Reporting to the Project Director and Crew Chief, archaeological Field Technicians are responsible for conducting reconnaissance survey, the establishment of grids, artifact collection, test unit and feature excavation, and documentation. To this end, and in accordance with SRI conventions and project requirements, archaeological field technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field:
· Conduct archaeological survey, testing, and data recovery
· Identify, manually excavate, and document archaeological features in plan and profile
· Complete field forms accurately and concisely
· Properly label collection bags and samples
· Must be able to lift up to 40lbs and to work in intensely arid, hot, conditions.
Fieldwork is scheduled to start in April and last into the fall or early winter.
