Posted September 14, 2016 in Archaeology and CRM Jobs

In cooperation with the National Park Service Mojave National Preserve, the

Great Basin Institute is recruiting an Archaeology Technician to support
cultural resource management at Mojave National Preserve. Mojave National
Preserve (MOJA) is rich in cultural, archeological, and historical
resources. The principal objective of this position is to implement a
targeted archeological survey and other activities focused on promoting
cultural scientific research related to MOJA in the area of archeological
field work, historic preservation investigations, stabilization treatments,
archeological surveys, site documentation, determinations of historic
eligibility, national register nominations, and cultural anthropology
within the preserve. Examples of needed assistance include: archeological
field surveys, inventories, site recording, excavations, site condition
assessments, and stabilization (e.g. monitoring, mapping, screening soil
for and cataloguing artifacts when holes are dug on sites for planting
native plants or vertical mulch; conducting minor treatment at damaged
sites); writing sections of draft reports; database entry; file management;
preparation of National Register Nominations and Determinations of
Eligibility; and other routine tasks associated with resource division
functions. In addition, the preserve will be initiating an ethnographic
study of the history of African American homesteading in the large, flat
Lanfair Valley within the Preserve during the early 20th century. The
projects will provide for location, recordation, and assessment of cultural
resources as well as processing the collected field data. Data collected
will be integrated into spatial and relational databases. Additional
opportunities will be provided to participate in other resource science and
stewardship projects.
