POSITION
An Cultural Resources Specialist (Research Associate III Special) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina.
ORGANIZATION
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify and request to be programmed by the IST, projects to implement installation ICRMP in accordance with stated ICRMP goals and objectives.
• Provide professional cultural resources guidance, technical support, and advice to Shaw AFB leadership upon request, and shall provide cultural resources training, conduct briefings, and participate in special assistance teams to address base-level cultural resources problems, as necessary.
• Assist in deliverable examination. NFE will provide technical recommendations only to Government personnel for consideration. Documents reviews will include historic property
inventory/survey reports, agreement documents, environmental assessments, and other environmental data products and shall make recommendations regarding adequacy.
• Provide assistance to develop statements of work and government cost estimates for cultural resources work to be contracted or accomplished at Shaw AFB. The NFE shall participate in
project scoping meetings and provide professional advice on the methodology and appropriate level of service required to complete cultural resources requirements.
• Conducts activities in compliance with the following:
—National Historic Preservation Act
—Native American Graves protection and Repatriation Act —Archaeological Resources Protection Act
—American Indian Religious Freedom Act
—National Environmental Policy Act
—AFI 32-7065 (to include all statutory references cited therein) —AFI 90-2002 (to include all statutory references cited therein) —Other applicable federal, state, local, DoD, and AF standards,
regulations, and directives
• Provides oversight for or accomplishes cultural resources survey, mitigation, and monitoring activities.
• Provide cultural resource data collection support to Shaw AFB. Tasks will include observation of cultural resources activities conducted at Shaw AFB. NFE will provide observations and
opinions to Government personnel.

• Assist the installation in consultations with the SHPO, tribes, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and other interested parties, pertaining to the identification and evaluation of historic properties, proposed undertakings, potential impacts of these undertakings, and supporting documentation for determinations of effect.
• Assist in preparing agreement documents (MOAs, MOUs, PAs, etc.) with state agencies, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, and other consulting parties as deemed necessary by
Shaw AFB leadership.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must be able to walk over uneven terrain in inclement weather. The position may also require bending, climbing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
•The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the United States by proposed start date. CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
•MA/MS in Anthropology with specialization in Archaeology, plus at least two years of relevant experience is required.
•The successful candidate must have basic understanding of archaeological field and laboratory practices to include management of records, artifacts, and other materials produced and/or recovered during projects.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Southeastern US prehistory, history, and archaeology.
•Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with and/or managing architecture, historic preservation, archaeology, planning, and the Whole Building Design Guide, as well as other training and skills pertaining to the position.
•Experience monitoring cultural resources projects from initial programming and planning to conclusion of the project, with little to no supervision. Have a thorough understanding of most standard computer programs.
•Demonstrated knowledge working with all laws and regulations that govern historic preservation requirements and tribal consultation, and have demonstrated experience carrying out consultation and compliance activities under those regulations.
•The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
•Extensive knowledge of DoD, USAF, and ANG policies and processes, and military culture in general. •Experience with and proficiency in Air Force eDash, and other DoD database management and SharePoint systems is also beneficial.

SALARY
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Annual salary range $58,000 – $62,000. Continuation of the position is dependent on the receipt of funding from the sponsor for Cultural Resource efforts at Shaw AFB.
