GAI has immediate openings for temporary Cultural ResourcesTechnicians to support various projects across the Midwestern region.These technicians will be responsible for identifying, excavating andrecording potential sites in accordance with state archaeologicalstandards. Projects may include Phase I through Phase III, historicand/or prehistoric investigations. Pre-employment drugtesting is required for all of the above opportunities. Candidates with B.A. orB.S. in Archaeology/Anthropology and satisfactory completion of a field schoolare preferred.

·        Pay rates vary between $13.00 and $15.00 per hour, based onqualifications/experience.

·        Per Diem is $35.00 per work day, hand delivered at the beginning of eachten-day session check form. No receipt keeping is required.

·        Individual, single occupancy hotel rooms will be provided.

·        Transportation is provided for daily travel between hotel and site.

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·        Follow required healthand safety policies as specified by GAI, client, and OSHA

·        Maintain appropriate levelof client confidentiality

·        Excavate, screen, andcollect archaeological materials in accordance with state archaeologicalstandards

·        Identify and record anyarchaeological features and structures within project right-of-way

·        Photograph and map surveyareas, testing locations, excavations, and any observable cultural resources

·        Accurately complete paperand/or electronic field forms

·        Records soil using aMunsell soil chart

·        Use a compass for basicorienteering within the project vicinity

·        Manually remove brush/vegetationwhen necessary

·        Work outdoors in varyingweather conditions

·        Hike, off-trail, whilecarrying tools and equipment

·        Perform any and all otherduties assigned by supervisor

 

Qualifications

·        BA degree in Anthropology or a related field plus fieldschool required 

·        Minimum one year CRM experience in North America required

·        Excellent communication skills

·        Willingness to travel and with independent means oftransportation

·        Experience in archaeological field excavationtechniques, data recording, mapping, and surveying

Physical Requirements

·        Use fine motor skills to handle delicate objects, writeby hand, feel sharp objects, and reach with hands/arms

·        Possess satisfactory close range vision, distance vision,peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

·        Talk, hear, taste or smell

·        Stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

·        Lift and/or move up to 40lbs

·        Hike over various types of terrain whilecarrying up to 25lbs of gear

·        Extensively dig/shovel

·        Manually clear brush/vegetation from testing locations

·        Work outdoors in extreme temperatures and weatherconditions
