Eastern Washington University’s College of Social Sciences seeks a *Director
of our Archaeological & Historical Services*.

Since 1980, Archaeological and Historical Services (AHS) has provided
cultural resources management services for all aspects of it’s contracted
and grant funded projects, including project planning and development. AHS
specializes in aiding private, city, county, state, and federal clients in
meeting local, state, and federal compliance requirements pertaining to the
inventory, protection, and enhancement of Pacific Northwest archaeological
and historical resources. AHS services are designed to manage cultural
resources as well as meet the requirements of federal, state, and county
regulatory statutes.

The AHS offices are located on Eastern’s Cheney campus (16 miles from
downtown Spokane), and has provided services to clients throughout
Washington State, as well as to clients located in Oregon, Idaho, Montana
and northern California.

In addition to project findings reports, our professional staff contributes
to regional historic preservation and archaeological research through the
publication of findings in research journals and presentations at regional
and national meetings.

*Responsibilities:*

AHS’ Director directs all Archaeological and Historical activities and
personnel. The Director develops and prepares contract and grant funding
proposals as well as overseeing this activity by other AHS staff. The
Director implements cultural resource projects in compliance with federal
and state regulations. The Director responds to client needs for cultural
resources compliance services and advice. The Director prepares reports of
findings and employs a multidisciplinary approach of standard and
experimental techniques to meet project goals and client needs. AHS’
Director responds to media and public and professional requests.

This position is available due to the planned retirement of it’s long term
Director. Significant overlap is planned for the candidate hired for this
position, to allow extensive training and transfer of knowledge, and to
ensure the continued successful of the program and it’s many ongoing
projects.

*Conditions of Employment*

Periodic travel to locations throughout Washington, and other western
states, should be expected in order to direct and oversee AHS projects.

The nature of fieldwork involves working in a wide variety of outdoor
conditions, weather and environmental.

Must have access to a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and
insurance. Use of personal vehicle for work related travel is reimbursed at
current IRS determined rates.

*Required Qualifications*:

Master’s degree in anthropology or related cultural resources field.

Ability to complete essential functions as demonstrated through years of
experience.

Additionally, candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or
ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

*Preferred Qualifications*:

Supervisory experience working in cultural resources compliance
organization.

Experience working in grant and contract funded university-based cultural
resources compliance organization.

*Other Skills and Abilities*:

Strong communication skills, oral and written, including ability to write
comprehensive reports that comply with the requirements of different grants
and contracts.
