Applied EarthWorks is currently seeking to hire an *Associate Archaeologist*
in our Fresno, California office.

Founded in 1995, Applied EarthWorks is an employee-owned consulting firm
specializing in history, archaeology, architectural history, and
paleontology. From our Albany, Oregon, and five California offices, located
in Hemet, Pasadena, Lompoc, San Luis Obispo, and Fresno, the firm performs
work throughout California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.
Applied EarthWorks offers a full range of core services, including
prehistoric archaeology, historical archaeology, built environment, lithic
and faunal analysis, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), paleontology,
geoarchaeology, and 3D modeling.

*Job Description: *
The successful candidate will participate in cultural resources projects
primarily in the Sierra Nevada and Central Valley, but may be required to
work throughout California. We seek a candidate who can supervise
fieldwork, manage projects, and author technical reports. A candidate with
a strong background in lithic analysis is preferred, although not required.
Typical job duties will include: organizing and managing field projects;
conducting records searches and prefield background research; participating
in tribal outreach efforts; supervising field surveys, site testing, and
data recovery excavation; archaeological monitoring; conducting
significance evaluations according to National and California Register
criteria; preparation of all elements of technical reports in support of
Section 106, NEPA, and CEQA compliance efforts. The candidate may also
assist with proposal preparation, marketing, and new business development.

*Key Requirements:*
• Proven ability to direct both large and small-scale surveys, testing
programs, and data recovery;
• Strong technical writing skills;
• Ability to perform lithic analysis (preferred, not required)
• An understanding of the CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 of the National
Historic Preservation Act;
• Previous experience managing budgets, supervising personnel, task
management, and proposal preparation;
• Strong communication skills with clients and staff; and
• Prior experience in California.

*Education/Experience: *
M.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or
closely related field required. Register of Professional Archaeologists
(RPA) certification preferred. This position requires a minimum of five
years of experience conducting archaeological fieldwork in support of CRM
compliance projects and a minimum of three years of experience as Field
Director or Supervisor. Applicants must be able to qualify as Field
Director on Bureau of Land Management permits.
