Job Announcement – Principal Investigator/Project Archeologist
TRC Environmental Corporation is soliciting resumes for a highly motivated and experienced Principal Investigator/Project Archaeologist to fill a permanent, full-time position in our Austin, Texas, office. Applicants must have an M.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a related discipline and have field experience in performing and supervising archaeological survey, testing, and/or data recovery projects. In addition, applicants must have completed at least one significance testing and/or data recovery project in accordance with the Section 106 process at the Project Director level. Field experience directing large linear archaeological survey projects is preferred.
Qualified applicants should meet the Secretary of Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards in Archaeology; exhibit leadership qualities and be able to oversee archaeological field crews; make good tactical decisions in the field; ensure the quality of data, fieldwork, and paperwork; manage and organize information and tasks effectively; perform background research; write technical reports meeting the requirements of historic preservation legislation; complete tasks in a timely fashion; and coordinate with project managers regarding project requirements and expectations.
Some experience in Texas archaeology, or adjacent States, is preferred, though not required. Artifact analysis and technical writing experience will be strongly considered, and familiarity with the Section 106 process and state and federal historic preservation laws is preferred. Applicants must be willing to travel. This position will involve data analysis and technical writing, so applicants should be prepared to submit writing samples upon request (preferably samples of cultural resource management documentation and/or academic publications demonstrating strong writing skills).
