pplied EarthWorks,
Inc. has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Archaeologist/GIS
Technician in San Luis Obispo, California. Applied EarthWorks is a consulting firm specializing
in history, archaeology, cultural resources management (CRM), and paleontology.

Technician to join our team of stellar professionals.

 
Duties:
The successful
candidate, under the direction of senior staff, will work on cultural resources
projects throughout the Central Coast of California (Santa Barbara, San Luis
Obispo and Monterey counties).  Archaeological
tasks will include participation in field survey, testing and data recovery projects;
construction monitoring; and technical report production. GIS work will include
management of GIS and GPS data; creation and maintenance of project specific
geodatabases and shapefiles; georeferencing; and production of report quality
maps.
 
Skill
Requirements: 
  • Experience
    in both field archaeology and GIS;
  • Technical
    writing skills;
  • Certification
    or demonstrable skills with ArcGIS;
  • Ability

    to collect, download and transfer data to and from Trimble or other GPS
    devices;

  • An
    understanding of the CEQA, NEPA, and Section 106 of the National Historic
    Preservation Act; and
  • Strong work ethic
    and good communication skills
    .
 
Education/Experience:
M.A. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical
archaeology, or related field preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in
CRM. Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification and California
experience preferred.
