In cooperation with the BLM
Winnemucca District, the Great Basin Institute is recruiting to hire a Historic
Trails Youth Intern to serve as a GBI-sponsored AmeriC

orps program. In addition
to being part of a larger national service movement, the successful applicant
should possess interest in maintaining and improving recreation and stewardship
of public lands, with a specific focus on stewardship of National Historic
Trails in the Black Rock Desert-High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National
Conservation Area (NCA). The Youth Intern will assist with land management and
visitor service needs in the NCA, including: cultural resource monitoring and
recording, and site protection; visitor services (staff support for visitor
centers and information kiosks); and environmental education, outreach, and
interpretive talks to the general public.

The historic trails youth
intern will also enhance relationships with key partners in the management of
historic trails and increase capacity to more effectively manage and protect
historic trail resources. The Intern will be mentored by a BLM archaeologist
and will assist with inventory and protection projects. The information, education
and outreach role of the intern would involve interpretation of trail resources
through activities and efforts such as trail tours, research and cooperative
interpretation with partners.
