have a career opportunity for a Cultural Resources Principal Investigator
to work from our Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, office.
The ideal candidate will have strong skills in Cultural Resources
consulting and project management, particularly environmental planning and
NEPA compliance.
The Cultural Resources Principal Investigator will be responsible for:
– Authoring and reviewing survey and excavation reports, site recording
forms, research designs, treatment plans, and other technical documents.
– Overseeing all aspects of field research, data collection, inventory,
analysis, and final report production.
– Remaining current with agency protocol for conducting cultural
resources work, particularly in the tri-state area of Ohio, West Virginia,
and Pennsylvania.
– Maintaining good working relationships with state and federal agency
contacts and clients.
– Helping to develop and maintain the SWCA quality assurance/quality
control program and ensure that all fieldwork, analysis, and report
production is conducted in accordance with SWCA and agency standards and
guidelines.
– Assisting with training and mentoring cultural resources staff.
– Assisting with budgets and participate in preparing proposals.
– Assisting with business development ventures.
– Taking initiative, resolving problems, and creating improved
procedures to ensure that tasks are completed in the most effective manner
– Working closely with SWCA’s other managers, leads, and directors, in
the Pittsburgh office and in all offices throughout the company, to promote
SWCA’s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.
– Promoting SWCA in the scientific community through professional
presentations, participation in professional conferences, and coordinating
the participation of other staff members in professional conferences
– Opportunity to participate in SWCA’s Scientific Leadership Program
– Minimum of a Master’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology required.
– Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and fieldwork experience required.
– Must demonstrate completion, at a Principal Investigator level, of a
minimum of one testing or data recovery excavation project (three or more
projects a plus) involving primarily archaeological investigations and
preparation of final reports consistent with the Secretary of the
Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic
Preservation. Projects shall have been performed with a federal nexus
requiring compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act.
– Emphasis in Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions of archaeology and a
current technical specialization (i.e., lithic analysis, historical
archaeology, GIS, architectural history, etc.) preferred.
– Experience with NEPA and Section 106.
– Current listing as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (or
qualified for RPA status).
– Past peer-reviewed publication record and conference presentation
experience preferred.
