Some of the oldest paper in the world are from the Diary of Merer documenting the building of Khufu’s pyramid in Giza.

Channel 4 just produced a neat documentary on … Read more

Beauty in Chaos: Lesson in data visualization from the near realtime wind visualization of Hurricanes Katia, Irma, and Jose

As a scientist one thing I genuinely appreciate is high quality visualizations of data to give lay people an idea of scale and complexity presented in a format they can understand without specialized training. UofL Monroe Administration Gives Museum 48hr Notice: Threatens Destruction of Millions of Natural History Specimens

Note: The Louisiana higher education system has been under assault by the state government for years and I believe it is the canary in the coal mine for a very plausible possible future we face with a defunded and under attack US education system. [DAPL] Energy Transfer Partners (ETP) spokeswoman Vicki Granado confirmed this morning that construction has resumed “immediately after receiving the easement.”

On Wednesday The Army Corps of Engineers gave Energy Transfer Partners formal permission to lay pipe under Lake Oahe. DAPL protests for nothing? Trump & Pence are on the attack for “Waters of the U.S” which is what engaged the Corps.

It is important to remember that the DAPL project is for oil, not Natural Gas. As a result the project does not automatically invoke FERC. Instead, (some) cultural resources are protected because the Corps of Engineers has oversight on water crossings because of the “Waters of the U.S” laws.  Today, as President Trump swore his oath … Read more
